Frequently Asked Questions |
- What is Co-Active Coaching?
Co-Active Coaching is a unique, proactive alliance in which coach and client work together as equals to meet the needs of the client. Fervent curiosity is more important for the coach than specialized knowledge. Skills and techniques are important; authenticity and connection are more important.
The Coaches Training Institute that I attended holds that all people are naturally creative, resourceful, and whole, and capable of finding their own answers to whatever challenges they face. My job is to ask questions, listen, and empower rather than instruct and advise. I also believe that all parts of people's lives - their careers, relationships, recreation, personal growth, and finances for example - are interrelated and may be addressed on the way to the client's goal. I coach the whole person to extraordinary results.
- What issues come up in coaching?
Anything and everything. My specialties are health and wellness, divorce recovery, relationships/couples, and career transition. I coach people on limited beliefs, change of perspective, and how physiology, focus and internal representations affect your life. Coaches do not coach addictions, deep wounds, abuse issues, suicide, mental illness etc. Coaches do not give financial, real estate, legal or medical advice.
- What is the difference between coaching and therapy?
Psychotherapy generally deals with people with emotional/behavioral problems and disruptive situations - and seeks to bring the client to normal function by focusing on dysfunction. The primary focus is on healing.
Coaching, on the other hand, deals with functional people who want to move toward higher function - and achieve excellence while creating an extraordinary life. The primary focus is on evolving a manifestation of potential. And, healing is often a side effect.
Additionally, the expectations and focus the client brings to the professional relationship sets the context as coaching or as therapy.
- How do I get started?
Coaching begins with an in-take session designed to create an alliance between the coach and the client. Values, beliefs and goals will be explored in this session. Following the discovery session, appointments are generally conducted via telephone in 40 minute segments three times per month.
- What is your monthly fee?
My monthly fee is $250, paid in advance on the 1st of each month. This includes (3) 40 minute coaching sessions, and email communication throughout the week when needed.
